Do You Believe in Ghosts?

Thanksgiving Weekend

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

My family had a fun weekend, and we were calling it the "best Thanksgiving ever!" My dad rented a couple of beach houses down in Florida at Cape San Blas so we were able to get a good part of the family together.

We didn't have everyone and missed those who weren't there but we had a big crew and a blast. I've never been to Cape San Blas, and it was beautiful!

My cousin and I did have an odd thing happen, and I wasn't sure if I was going to write about it because I didn't want to sound crazy, but hey - if the shoe fits! No, but really...

The Ghost in the Bed

My cousin, Amy, and I shared one of the upstairs bedrooms across the hall from my parents.

The first night, I was tired and went to bed early. I have a habit of reading in bed before I turn the lights off, and I did that as usual.

Bauer was in his dog bed on the floor next to the bed.

I'd noticed him pointing at the floor with the hair on the back of his neck up earlier in the day but I didn't think much of it. He does that if he hears or senses anything - even a roach!

I propped myself up on some pillows in the big king-size bed and got to reading.

As I was reading, I had the strangest feeling of movement and when I looked up from my book, the foot of the bed was moving a little and the bed was slightly shaking.

"Well, that's weird," I said out loud to Bauer. He barely looked up.

I figured someone was doing something downstairs that was shaking the house enough to shake the bed (or something??).

A few minutes back into my book and my eyelids were heavy and then I felt the end of the bed moving again.

"I must be really tired," I thought.

I closed my book and went to sleep. I barely heard Amy come in later and climb in bed.

The next morning, I was up early to take Bauer out and relax on the back porch for a bit.

I didn't get a single sunrise photo while I was in Florida. That's unusual for me but it really felt good to just relax for once. I don't do that very often.

The Big Day

There was a lot of anticipation about the rest of my kids arriving on Thursday and getting everything ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

My dad, daughter Claire, and her boyfriend, Tucker, were running a 5k Thursday morning, so my niece and I went with them and hung out.

I was proud of my 81-year-old dad running a 5k on Thanksgiving Day, and he came in ahead of a lot of people!

Claire was the first woman to cross the finish line so she got a medal. I suppose a 5k isn't much when you've recently run the Chicago Marathon!

Back at the house after the run, we spent the day walking and hanging out at the beach and cooking.

We had such a wonderful evening - lots of talking, eating, music listening, wine drinking, and an all-around good time.

There We Ghost Again

As usual, I turned in a little before my cousin.

As per my routine, I sat up in bed reading. Once again, the foot of the bed moved and the bed shook a little. Hmmm...

I ignored it and went to bed.

The next morning, I finally mentioned to my cousin that something strange was happening with the bed at night while I was reading.

The look on her face!

She said, "Oh my gosh! I thought it was my imagination!"

She said when I got up in the morning, both days so far, she later felt like I had come back and gotten back in bed but when she rolled over and looked, no one was there!

So...the mysterious ghost in the bed.

I've no idea what to make of it.

We inspected the bed pretty thoroughly looking for clues.

My sister thought maybe it was some sort of part waterbed but I ruled that out based on the boxspring and lack of cords (waterbeds always need heating).

My only thought is that it was some sort of beveled air mattress that was breathing or letting air out somehow? But that didn't really make sense either.

My cousin left on Saturday morning so I was alone in the room on Saturday night. My daughter offered to come upstairs and sleep with me if I was scared!

I slept alone, and I was fine, though - yes - the bed did some more shaking and moving. Isn't that the strangest thing?

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

See you between the raindrops!

Susan
